Hot Bulb Simulator, dressed up

After unboxing, checking things over, oiling the moving parts and adding water to the cooling tower, primed the mixer and it started right up on the first try.
This thing will blow smoke rings for days, so use it outside or with the garage door open.
The engine runs quite well, the mixer/carb is set to run rich for low speed and lean for high speed. Lean condition for too long will cause the engine to run hot, so run it rich and slow.
Fuel mixed 25/1 per directions, using Marvel Mystery oil as it does not gum up.
With a little attention to detail, it can be dressed up to look quite remarkable.
Brass fuel pipe is 4mm, 1/4" wire loom to hide the wire, replaced the brass/copper exhaust fittings for a clean straight pipe, made the wooden box to hide the electronics and added the cylinder oiler. This should come with it imo, but it was fun to search for one and this looks pretty good. Info on the oiler can be found in the video description. 10/32 thread for the oiler.
Would recommend.

Hot bulb engine

The engine arrived with a broken timber base.
This was not a problem as I planned to make a 6mm aluminium plate base for it
No instructions included at all.
Made the base and protective carry guard and put it all together .
It worked after a bit of adjustment on the mixture screw
Runs perfectly and makes smoke rings from the exhaust
I used 2 stroke mix as fuel
The coolant water is circulated by the piston pump and cools the system efficiently
The large flywheel certainly helps keep the engine rotating while making minute adjusments to the mixture screw
Overall I am very impressed

Updated review

I finally got around to making a better platform for the engine one that I could mount the generator on I used a 2” metal caster wheel for the engine pulley and a piece of suede leather for the belting. I tapped the metal wheel and inserted a 8x1.25mm heli coil and it screwed right on the shaft I do need to replace it with a 3” pulley so the generator output will be a little higher and the lights will be brighter but I’m happy with how it has turned out so far.

Simulated hot bulb engine

I just received the simulated hot bulb horizontal engine from RETROL through Enginediy it took about a month and a half to get but once production was complete it only took 2 days to arrive to Georgia from Hong Kong there have been some design changes from the posted sales pictures they don’t have the flat board base it’s on two small about 1”x1” square cross mounted pieces. The water tank is mounted on the end of one and the fuel tank mounts on the other it does still come with the crank handle and the drill adapter but the crank handle is not usable with the new configuration because it hits the water tank and cannot be rotated. Mine came without the usb adapter but did come with two different ign sensors but only the screw to mount the sensor holder to the engine was present I had to find two to actually mount the trigger to the holder small fine thread. The valves are now adjustable and it uses an I-beam type connecting rod with needle bearings on the big end.the crank and rod are now one assembly and pressed together like a motorcycle crank. It started right up by just spinning the flywheel and runs great all I had to do was set the ignition timing and off it went. I was a little disappointed with the paint job it looks like it was just sprayed with a spray can and some parts have overspray on them but all in all I’m pleased with the engine and will now get busy building a better display to mount it on.

fine simulation

a great engine for looking when it runs. only handstart needed,no handcrank, no powerdrill.
